So we started school this week. Yeah! Kim is in middle school and has LOVED it so far. Her least favorite thing is that she's tired a lot because we are getting up at 6:00 am to be ready in time. She is very organized - makes her own lunch the night before, gets herself up and ready, checks her school planner all the time, and gets her homework done (so far...). She ran the mile and wants to improve her time, so we are going to practice at least once a week at home as well as at school.
Abby seems to be enjoying school. She has also jumped on the "make her own lunch" bandwagon. It's fabulous! Now if we could just get something more than crackers and cookies in there... She is starting ice skating lessons next week, so watch out Olympians!
Eric had a great first day of kindergarten. He gave his teacher an apple (all his own idea). I guess there were quite a few parents in the room when he gave it to her and they all thought it was very sweet. I figure he'll probably need all the points he can get. He flew through the pre-screening last week, so I'm not really worried about him in that way. He had quite a challenging soccer game on Saturday, though. He wanted to kick the ball hard instead of dribbling it and then got mad when it didn't go it the goal. Then it was too hot. Then they weren't using his ball. Then he kept "falling". Anyway, it can only get better next week, I hope.
Jessica WILL be potty-trained this month. School has started and we have some time before all the volunteering, etc... hits hard. She seems to have her moments of interest. Let's hope it goes quickly. She's certainly smart enough. I was asking her what we should make for Eric when he got home from school. I suggested a grilled cheese sandwich. She said that SHE would eat the grilled cheese sandwich and Eric would get a "boy" cheese sandwich. Crazy girl!
Otherwise, life is good and we are doing pretty well. It's fun to read up on everyone else's doings, so keep writing - I'll try too!

the end of summer :0
Okay, so now it's the end of the summer and I haven't written much.... School starts on the 8th so we have a couple of weeks to play. Kim just had band camp this past week and she is gracing us all with trombone playing. She sounds great! I am being asked to move from the table, so I will have to write more later. Bye!

School's Out for Summer!
We are having fun with no school for a couple of months. Kim and Abby had their Activity Day Girl day camp last week, we went to Birch Bay waterpark (came home with 5 stitches), went to the local parade, went on a hike, went letterboxing, and got ready for a houseguest. Busy weeks.
The girls had a good time I think. They keep singing the songs they learned. I took Eric and Jessica on the hike and they did a great job! They both walked the whole way - it was about 2 miles total I think - and they had friends to walk with to keep them company.
Kim is excited about her basketball camp this week and then we have the ward campout, 4th of July, and our trip to Chicago and Detroit.

June already ?!?!?
Broadway Night was a BLAST! It ran fairly smoothly and we are all still trying to catch up on sleep, cleaning the house, etc...
Last night I went to the temple and did initiatories. I haven't done that in a very long time. It was a fantastic experience. It really made me think about the purposes we have here and the promises we made and blessings we were promised when we did it for ourselves. Reid was out of town so I rode down there with a few others - 4 ladies and the poor husband of one of them. The girls decided to go out to dinner afterwards and we had so much fun. I haven't done that very often and honestly it helped that Reid was gone - no worries about neglecting the sleeping family :)
Kim thinks she's already a 6th grader and is gearing up to pay trombone next year in band. Abby is dying to be in Girl Scouts today so we are in the process of signing her up too. Eric is excited to start kindergarten in the fall at his new school. Jessica won't know what to do all morning with no Eric around to tease.
Reid is gearing up for a busy summer and just got called as the 1st counselor in Young Mens. He's inherited a small group of boys that need a lot of guidance. I think he's up to the task.

Back on track?
Well, we are trying to get things back to normal here - what is normal? I'm working on Broadway Night costumes for the kids and - oh yeah - Reid and I too! I am making a bunch of small aprons, chef hats, lion tails, etc... I really having fun with it, but it sure is busy. I need to make sure my costumes are ready to go as well. The big day is June 6th, so it's coming up fast! Hopefully the kids will learn their songs well.
Kim did her Groovin' with the Grimms performance last week and did a great job on her solo. If I can get on the ball I'll post it on here later. She also had a BLAST following a 6th graders around for a day at the middle school. She was thrilled that some of the 7th graders told her she would be fine because she was "cool". She is taking great care is what she is wearing, etc... so I suppose she'll fit right in! I think it's a great way to get kids excited and ready for middle school.
Eric had a small birthday party with 3 of his friends and their younger siblings this week. It was probably the easiest party I've ever done! We met at Burger King, got kids' meals and the kids played for a while. They brought us chocolate pies (the cupcakes were still frozen because some employee forgot to take them out) and we sang Happy Birthday and he opened presents. I paid Burger King and we left. He was thrilled to play with his friends and my house didn't get messier in the process. Fun times!

May is BUSY!
Well, we just had Eric's birthday last week. He had a great day. He got some Legos, a slinky dog, a Nerf gun, and Lego Batman. He was in heaven and didn't want to go to sleep that night because he was so excited about his presents.
Jessica is a funny girl. She loves to play food with her dolls and stuffed animals and likes to set up all the Little People. She annoys her brother constantly and thinks it's rather funny.
Kim is getting ready to leave elementary school. She is excited about her musical performance this week and also Broadway Night in June.
Abby is Abby. Always setting up something in her room. She had a store all set up and ready to go until I broke it to her that we were not going to be allowing strangers to come into her room to buy things from her.
I am done with the school auction. We raised about $6,000 - the only fundraiser of the year to actually bring in what was budgeted. It was a lot of work, but I've only heard good things about it. I will not be doing it next year, so I still have to get a detailed binder together with all the info that I've been storing in my brain. Now on to Broadway Night!
Reid is traveling and busy with lots of things. He is having fun playing Lego Batman with Eric. We are just plugging away - ready for the school year to end.
